I'm heading to Italy soon. I'm from the U.S, where there are countless smoking restrictions. I'm a non-smoker. Is smoking more socially acceptable in Italy and does it have as many restrictions as the California or NY?

Most countries, a lot of European ones do find smoking more socially acceptable where as there are countless smoking bans in North America so I am pretty sure they won't have restrictions that mirror the States.
